White Curl Grub control with Nematodes

White curl grubs (witchy grubs) are often seen when digging up small sections of your lawn or garden beds. You may notice birds digging up large sections of the lawn in search of these grubs. The grubs (when active) October through until March, feed on the root system of the turf plant. This places the turf under drought stress and will eventually kill the turf.

Many chemicals used to control these grubs are ineffective due the depth of where the grub lives and can be harmful if used incorrectly.

CSIRO discovered Nematodes eradicated these white curl grubs very effectively.

What are nematodes?
  • Nematodes are microscopic eel like creatures that when applied, roam the soil searching for a host. Once inside the grub, the nematode releases bacteria which kill the host.
What are the benefits of nematodes?
  • Nematodes have absolutely no detrimental effect on turf or plants
  • They are harmless to humans and animals
  • They are easy to apply
  • They have an immediate effect on your turf as the insect ceases to feed on your lawn so turf damage ceases very quickly
How to apply nematodes?
  • Nematodes are applied with a knapsack or spray unit
  • It is best to spray the nematodes across your lawn at dusk and it is imperative that the surface is moist and kept well watered in the ensuing days.
